Just for the information of the speedies among us, there will be a 100m Dash event during the Samsung Inline Skating Festival this coming Sunday. You will have the chance to see the fastest skaters in Singapore vie for the top spot of "Fastest Skater in Singapore" over the shortest distance challenged in inline skating history.

You, too, can pit your skills and see how you compare with the other speedies around.

Registration now on at www.samsungskates.sg

Sorry if my knowledge of young people's language nowadays is vastly lacking... If my presumption that "tio own" mean not as fast as the other "speedskates" and thus put down during the competition, I'd like to say that sometimes for short sprints, especially 100m where acceleration is everything, skates with smaller wheels and shorter frames, freestyle skates in this case, may do better than "normal speedskates" with longer frames and larger wheels.

in fact, last year's runner up wanted to sprint in his hockey skates until he was told that the rules required wheel sizes between 80 to 100mm and the front two wheels happened to be 72mm. Hence, he was "forced" to use his normal speedskates.

PostSubject: freestyle skates n sprints??   Sun Jun 08, 2008 11:28 pm

I feel that freestyle skates can be used to sprint, assuming that the skater has the right sprint technique.

In such a short sprint event like the 100m dash, your start has to be perfect, so does your transition from run to skating, in addition to maintaining acceleration during the skating phase.

So, if used properly, the freestyle skate can be used to have a perfect start. Problem lies in that many people in freestyle skates do not YET have the proper technique for speedskating sprints.

PostSubject: Successful event   Sun Jun 08, 2008 11:31 pm

Announcing the successful announcement of the Samsung Inline Skating Festival 100m Dash with Champions both coming from Team SpeedVirus

Male: Daryl Chan
Female: Carmen Goh.

In fact, TSV swept the event, with only the insertion of Daniel Chew Wee, a seasoned inline (ice?) hockey player and converted speedskater in second position for the men's event.

Thanks to Samsung for sponsoring the largest skating event in Singapore's skating calendar in terms of prizes and resources put in.
